Who We Are:

The Commons is a for-profit coffee shop and coin laundry combination business wholly-owned and operated by MACC Development, a faith-based place-based community development corporation started by Mack Avenue Community Church. The Commons was the first major step in a long-term economic development plan designed to catalyze new business and community ventures in the 48214 zip code.

Job Summary and Mission:

The Commons’ General Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of top-notch café- coin laundry. Our General Manager brings The Commons experience to life by managing store operations, driving financial success, building great teams, and building a meeting place in the 48214 community. They will delight and uplift customers through a human connection.



    • Manage and model overall culture, values, mission and spirit of the company as an ambassador for The Commons.

    • Provide coaching and direction to The Commons’ team to take action and to achieve operational goals.

    • Recruit, interview, hire and train new staff in store operations according to the café-coin laundry policies and procedures.

    • Implement, train, and monitor customer service initiatives and behaviors that result in customer retention and satisfaction.

    • Inventory management, i.e., researching and procuring vendors and determining size and frequency of orders and preferred pricing.


    • Integrate the business within the community to create longevity and community buy in.

    • Serve as the primary point of contact as necessary with external agencies and authorities such as fire, service, police, and health and safety inspectors.


    • Drive sales leveraging business acumen, efficiency and problem solving skills.

    • Recruitment of diversified food vendors to provide food options in line with customer desires.

    • Recruitment of business patrons for drop off laundry services

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • 3 years of retail sales and customer service management experience.

  • Experience crafting high-quality espresso beverages quickly and consistently.


The General Manager is a full-time, paid position. The General Manager’s compensation includes the following:

  • A base salary commensurate to the candidate’s experience and fit for the position

  • A performance bonus, supplied at the discretion of the Board of Directors

  • A stipend for health care benefits, varying based on the need of the candidate and his/her family
